Fredrica V. Coates, Winston-Salem, NC. Assigned to Tailored Technologies, Inc., Winston-Salem, NC. Filed: 7/27/10 Issued: 3/3/15 A diaper assembly comprising a fluid absorbent pad and a diaper garment, wherein: the diaper garment comprises an outer shell including fasteners for securing the diaper garment to a wearer and a fluid resistant sling secured at a front end to the outer shell and at a rear end to the outer shell, the sling being free from the outer shell between the front end and the rear end, the fluid absorbent pad being carried by and removable from the fluid resistant sling, and wherein; the sling includes a front pocket and a rear pocket, opposite ends of the fluid absorbent pad being insertable into the front and rear pockets of the sling; and wherein; a rear fabric layer, softer to the touch than the fluid resistant sling, overlays the rear pocket and suspends the sling from the outer shell at a rear sling end, and wherein; a front subassembly comprising two side fabric gussets and top fabric gusset secured to a fluid resistant front shield overlaying the front pocket, the top fabric gusset extends beyond the overall width of the sling, the top fabric gusset is aligned and overlaid on the fluid resistant front shield such that the top and side fabric gussets surround the fluid resistant shield on three sides and conceal a portion of the fluid resistant front shield underneath the front subassembly, the top and side fabric gussets each being formed from a material softer to the touch than the fluid resistant sling and the fluid resistant front shield, the top and side gussets securing the sling at the front end to the outer shell, thereby the top and side fabric gussets in the front subassembly and the rear fabric layer provide comfort when contacting a wearer’s skin by reducing direct exposure of the wearer’s skin to fluid resistant material.
